Spotify accidentally revealed the information of India’s launch. A twitter user ( aroon Deep ) spotted this on their Terms & conditions page for India.
This might not come as a surprise, especially the recent signed between T series & Spotify. T series is one of the largest music record label company in India & one of the highest subscribed YouTube channel with more than 81 Million subs.
From the Terms & conditions page stating ” effective as on Jan 31, 2019 “, suggesting a launch event in last week of January. Though Spotify occupied the #1 music streaming platform in the world, it was never interested in the Indian market. One of the major reason might be the pricing of their subscription where Saavn ( Now as JioSaavn ) is available for free with Jio & Wynk Music with airtel postpaid, Prime music with Amazon prime.
It will be interesting to see how they will bring regional music where Gaana & Prime are already dominating. Though the contract with T series might look good but taking up the regional music might be a bit tough for Spotify.
